Festo – Ant Attack


Objective:

To communicate Festo’s latest product creation successfully and secure strong media coverage in key UK engineering magazines.

Approach:

Recognising the news currency of this story Technical Publicity put together PR collateral which best presented the news and pitched it to the editor of one of the leading engineering magazines in the UK. The editor was so impressed with the concept and information provided that they requested an interview with the Festo product manager which Technical Publicity facilitated. Throughout the process Technical Publicity worked closely with the editor to ensure all aspects of the story were communicated effectively.

Result:

Technical Publicity secured the magazine’s front cover story plus three additional pages of A4 coverage for Festo which is circulated to 17,000 design engineers across the UK! The Return On Investment for this one piece of PR coverage was a great result for Festo.

Background:

Technical Publicity has worked with Festo – the leading supplier of automation technology, on a retainer basis for PR services for a number of years. Our work offers them a ‘press office service’ in the UK and part of that includes identifying strong media opportunities.

Festo has, for many years, produced products demonstrating how principles taken from nature can inspire unique solutions for the future of the automation sector, combining pneumatic and electric drive technology as part of the company’s ‘Inspired by Nature’ campaign. The latest creation, which nods towards the philosophy of Industry 4.0, is the BionicANT – that focuses on cooperation and looks at how ants autonomously work together for one common solution. The cooperative behaviour of ants provides interesting approaches for the factory of tomorrow.
